'Kaiju No. 8' Spin-Off Short Anime 'Narumi's Weekday' Slated for Streaming Release

An original short spin-off anime titled "Narumi's Weekday" (Narumi no Heijitsu) based on the popular series Kaiju No. 8 has been officially announced alongside its first promotional video. The four-episode mini-series will begin streaming on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 8:00 PM JST, with new episodes releasing every Saturday on the official TOHO animation YouTube channel and other platforms.

Focusing on Gen Narumi, the First Division Captain famous for his online catchphrase "#TodayTooStrong," the spin-off depicts the far-from-peaceful everyday life of the eccentric leader. The newly unveiled PV condenses Narumi's frantic shouts and comical routine into a hilarious preview, spotlighting voice actor Koki Uchiyama's energetic performance. The video also features sharp retorts from Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina (voiced by Kengo Kawanishi) and reveals appearances by key side characters, including Hoshina's older brother.

Immediately following its reveal during the "No. 8 Day Special Broadcast," the announcement began trending across social media. Fans flooded online platforms with enthusiastic comments, celebrating the banter between Narumi and Hoshina, the debut of the Hoshina brothers together, and upcoming highlights like a diner scene and Episode 3's "The Guy from the West" arc.

Kaiju No. 8, created by Naoya Matsumoto, is a hit manga serialized on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform that was recently adapted into a globally successful anime. The story takes place in a disaster-prone Japan plagued by giant monsters (kaiju). Gen Narumi is one of the franchise's most popular characters; despite being hailed as humanity's strongest anti-kaiju combatant on the battlefield, he is notoriously unkempt, hot-headed, and addicted to video games in his private life. In Japan, August 8 is informally celebrated as "No. 8 Day" (Hachigo no Hi), making it a traditional date for major franchise news and special broadcasts.
