JSDF Airlifts 300 Portable Air Conditioners to Earthquake-Hit Kumamoto Amid Extreme Heat
Following a series of earthquakes centered in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan's Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) have intensified rapid disaster relief operations to support affected residents facing intense summer heat. On the 29th, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) utilized a large transport aircraft to airlift approximately 300 portable air conditioners to the region to help prevent heatstroke at evacuation centers. To quickly improve conditions at shelters where severe heat is a major concern, a C-2 transport aircraft from the JASDF 2nd Tactical Airlift Group took off from Iruma Air Base in Saitama Prefecture loaded with about 300 portable cooling units.
