YOASOBI to Perform Theme Song for Autumn 2026 NHK Morning Drama "Blossom"

NHK Osaka Broadcasting Station announced on the 23rd that the popular music duo YOASOBI will perform the theme song for the upcoming morning drama series (Asadora) "Blossom," scheduled to air in autumn 2026. It was also revealed that Akutagawa Prize-winning author Risa Wataya will write an original novel to serve as the foundation for the song.

"Blossom" is modeled after Chiyo Uno, a pioneering female author who passionately pursued freedom throughout changing eras. The screenplay is penned by Tsuyoshi Sakurai, who previously wrote the hit Asadora "Boogie Woogie." As YOASOBI operates under the unique concept of "turning novels into music," this project represents a star-studded collaboration with Wataya.

The project also holds a special regional connection: both YOASOBI composer Ayase and the drama's real-life model, Chiyo Uno, hail from Yamaguchi Prefecture. Expressing his confidence on social media, Ayase shared, "This will undoubtedly become a new landmark song for YOASOBI."

Following the announcement, social media was flooded with excitement from fans, with comments such as "YOASOBI for an Asadora theme song is incredible," "I can't wait to listen to it every morning," and "Autumn 2026 can't come soon enough." Some fans have already begun reading related books to prepare for the broadcast, sparking early momentum for the show.

The context

NHK's "Renzoku TV Shosetsu," commonly known as "Asadora" (morning drama), is a prestigious daily 15-minute television drama broadcast every Monday through Saturday morning. Airing since 1961, these dramas typically feature inspiring stories of resilient female protagonists, often based on real historical figures who navigated major societal shifts in Japan. Performing the theme song for an Asadora is widely regarded as a major career milestone in the Japanese music industry, ensuring daily nationwide exposure across multiple generations.
