M!LK Collaborates with FuRyu for Exclusive Purikura Photo Booths, Sparking Fan Excitement

A new collaboration between the five-member Japanese boy group M!LK and photo booth (purikura) manufacturer FuRyu has been announced, sparking a massive reaction on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The newly designed machines feature pose guides created by each member, original decorative digital stamps, and a special mode that allows users to take photos that look like a "two-shot" photo with their favorite member. Fans have reacted with enthusiasm, commenting "This is amazing!" and "I have no choice but to go get my picture taken!"

Visuals released to promote the collaboration feature the M!LK members themselves enhanced by the purikura machine's signature beauty filters, which enlarge eyes and smooth out skin tones. Fans praised the results, noting, "Their eyes are already big and bright, so seeing them with purikura filters makes them look even cuter," and calling them "beyond pretty." The special experience of posing in the exact same frame as the members has driven anticipation to a fever pitch.

At the same time, older fans are voicing a humorous yet relatable struggle about visiting a photo booth after many years. Social media has been flooded with comments such as, "The hurdle of going into a purikura booth all by myself is way too high," and "I'm so nervous to line up alongside younger fans." Despite the embarrassment, many are gathering the courage to go anyway, declaring, "It's awkward, but I'll stand in line for a photo with my fave," and "If there's one near my office, I think I can do it." As a result, the photo booths are expected to attract fans across a wide range of generations.

The Context

M!LK is a popular Japanese boy group formed in 2014 under Stardust Promotion, known for their bright charm and catchy J-pop hits. Purikura (short for "print club") refers to photo booths in Japan that allow users to take, heavily edit with filters, decorate, and print sticker photos. FuRyu is Japan's leading manufacturer of these iconic booths. While purikura is predominantly popular among teenagers and young adults, special idol collaborations frequently inspire fans of all ages to visit arcades to create memories with their "oshi" (their favorite member).
