Animal Crossing and Baskin-Robbins Japan Announce Their First-Ever Summer Collaboration

Nintendo's beloved Animal Crossing series is teaming up with popular ice cream chain Baskin-Robbins (known in Japan as "Thirty-One Ice Cream") for their first-ever collaboration campaign: "Relaxing Summer Island Life with Island Villagers at Thirty-One!" starting July 1, 2026. Following the announcement, fans have flooded social media with excitement.

While Baskin-Robbins Japan has previously run collaborations with other major Nintendo franchises like Splatoon, Pokémon, and Super Mario, this marks their first venture into the world of Animal Crossing.

The campaign features a brand-new flavor, "Summer Island Feast Ice Cream" (Natsu no Shima Gochisou Ice), which captures the essence of the game. Combining pear, apple, and refreshing ramune soda flavors, the scoop is designed to evoke a cool, relaxing summer on a tropical island.

In addition to the flavor, customers can enjoy limited-edition cups and unique merchandise inspired by iconic in-game items. Highlights include a drawstring pouch designed to look like a bag of "Bells" (the in-game currency), a Single Sundae modeled after the balloon-borne "present boxes," Gulliver-themed designs, and special sets that come with exclusive lunch bags. What's more, the collaboration extends beyond physical stores: an official custom-designed island will also debut within the game itself.

Social media reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with comments like, "This is too cute! I'm definitely going," "I've been waiting years for this collab, I'm so happy!" and "Baskin-Robbins is going to be packed this July." Many passionate fans are already planning out their purchases, including special ice cream cakes and limited-edition sets, making this one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer.

The Context: Baskin-Robbins and Animal Crossing in Japan

In Japan, the world-famous ice cream parlor Baskin-Robbins is universally referred to as "Thirty-One" (or "Sāty-wan"). It is famous for hosting highly anticipated seasonal collaborations with popular anime, gaming, and pop culture franchises. Nintendo properties, in particular, always draw massive crowds.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (released as Atsumare Dobutsu no Mori in Japan) was a massive cultural phenomenon during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing a comforting escape for millions of players. Even years after its release, the franchise maintains a massive and loyal fanbase in Japan. The introduction of physical merchandise like the "Bell bag" pouch and real-life food items themed after the game is highly coveted by Japanese fans, who love collecting limited-edition, aesthetic goods.
