Square Enix's 'War of the Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius' Announces End of Service

Square Enix's popular tactical RPG, WAR OF THE VISIONS FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS Phantom War (FFBE War of the Visions), has announced that its service will conclude on May 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM JST. This marks the end of an approximately 6.5-year history since its launch in November 2019, drawing many farewell messages from users.

The official announcement was made on March 26, expressing gratitude to fans who had played the game for a long time. In response, a flood of emotional reactions appeared on social media platform "X" (formerly Twitter), with comments like "I played it quite a bit for a while, but it's really over...", "It's lonely," and "It's sad." Many posts also looked back on the communities and memories forged through the game, such as "days of ups and downs in guild battles" and "strategies discussed late into the night," conveying thanks with messages like "It was the best battlefield. Thank you."

The backdrop to the service termination reveals issues with the game system, as pointed out by users. Comments such as "Character development became predicated on maximum awakening plus more, leaving casual players behind" and "With complex enhancement materials and scarce distribution, users will inevitably leave" suggest that the complexity and high barrier to character development may have contributed to player attrition. Furthermore, some speculate that past system troubles, referred to as "that incident with the gacha tables that caused an uproar," and the "thinness of recent content" hastened the end of service. Some voices even express a harsh view of Square Enix's overall mobile game business, stating "Square Enix and social games just weren't compatible."

Leading up to the service termination, various initiatives titled "Grand Finale" are planned both within and outside the game. Users have expressed desires to "be able to play it as a buy-to-play title" or "preserve good features like background farming, which I think is a rather innovative system, for future titles," wishing for the game experience to be permanent or for good systems to be carried over to successors. In the past, collaboration events with Dragon Quest Tact and Trials of Mana (known as Seiken Densetsu 3 in Japan) were also held, exciting fans each time.
