Idolmaster's “Offermas” Project Sparks Nationwide Excitement for 20th Anniversary, Connecting Idols to Regions

The large-scale project “Panel Offer Project ‘Offermas’” commemorating the 20th anniversary of the popular game series “The Idolmaster” is finally set to launch nationwide on January 30, 2026 (Friday). This project aims to revitalize regions and promote businesses by having companies and local governments “offer” idols, installing life-size panels of those idols.

Following the project’s announcement, many Producers (fans) expressed their joy on social media. Posts celebrating the selection of their favorite idol or a region they have a connection to were particularly numerous. Enthusiastic comments poured in, such as “Thank you for participating in Offermas! I’ll definitely visit the store!!” and “There’s an Idolmaster collaboration in my hometown—I’m definitely going!!!”

This “Offermas” project sees the participation of a diverse range of companies and local governments. For instance, Maekawa Miku from The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls will have a panel installed in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, and also at the cat café “mfmf” in Yokohama. Additionally, “Butler Glasses eyemirror” will feature Mitsumine Yuika at its Ikebukuro main store and Kamijo Haruna at its Osaka store, launching a collaboration with eyewear. Hakozaki Serika will appear at the gyutan (beef tongue) restaurant “Jinchu” in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, and “Blume no Oka” in Shiga Prefecture has also announced its participation, resulting in truly regionally distinctive collaborations.

Other eye-catching offers tailored to each idol’s personality and background include Kitakami Reika at a guesthouse in Nagano Prefecture, Yamashita Jiro at the “Kyoto Ecology Center” in Kyoto, Kuzunoha Amehiko at “Glass Studio ONO” in Nara Prefecture and “Tamaya Honten” in Kanagawa Prefecture, and Hazama Michio at “Souzouspatial Cafe Atelier” in Osaka. Some unique information, such as the possibility of solo male fans being refused accommodation at Mizushima Saki’s collaborative lodging, has also been shared and discussed among fans. Kuwayama Chiyuki, for example, has received offers from multiple companies, spanning Hokkaido, Tokyo, and Yamaguchi, demonstrating the wide reach of her activities across the Japanese archipelago.

On the other hand, some fans expressed disappointment regarding regions or idols that were not selected. Particularly from the Shikoku region and Tochigi Prefecture, posts like “No Offermas at all lol” and “Are there no businesses?” were seen, indicating some opinions about regional imbalances. Nevertheless, many fans appear to be looking forward to this project as an opportunity to visit the places where their favorite idols are active and rediscover their charms.

This project, celebrating the 20th anniversary of “The Idolmaster” series, will create new connections between idols and the real world, promising an unforgettable experience for fans. Panel installations begin on January 30th, and a surge in “holy site pilgrimages” by Producers is anticipated.

The Context

“The Idolmaster” (often shortened to “Imas”) is a hugely popular Japanese multimedia franchise created by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It began as an arcade game in 2005 and has since expanded into numerous console games, mobile games, anime series, manga, music, and live concerts. The core concept revolves around players taking on the role of a “Producer” who manages and trains aspiring pop idols to achieve stardom.

Fans of “The Idolmaster” are known as “Producers” and often develop deep emotional connections to their “担当アイドル” (tanto-idol), or favorite/assigned idol. This strong bond often leads to passionate engagement with the franchise, including participating in real-world events and purchasing merchandise related to their chosen idol.

The “Panel Offer Project ‘Offermas’” leverages this dedicated fanbase. By allowing local businesses and governments to feature life-size panels of specific idols, the project directly encourages “聖地巡礼” (seichi junrei) – or “holy site pilgrimages.” This phenomenon involves fans traveling to real-world locations that are either depicted in their favorite media (anime, games) or, in this case, locations directly associated with their beloved idols through collaborative projects. The 20th anniversary marks a significant milestone for the long-running franchise, making this large-scale, nationwide collaboration a highly anticipated event for its devoted fanbase.
