Global AWS Outage Causes Widespread Disruption to Online Services, from Gaming to Business and Daily Life

A major outage at Amazon Web Services (AWS), a global cloud service, has been ongoing since shortly after 4:00 PM on October 20, 2025, severely impacting a wide range of online services both domestically and internationally.

As a result of this outage, popular online games such as Nintendo titles, Palworld, and Fortnite have been affected, with "Fate/Grand Order (FGO)" entering emergency maintenance. Network service and login issues have also been widely reported for Dead by Daylight (DBD), Overwatch 2, VRChat, and more. Users are lamenting, "Neither my Switch nor online games are working!"

The impact extends beyond the entertainment sector, affecting daily life and business as well. Smart home device "SwitchBot" has become unstable, with users expressing confusion like, "When I get home, I'll have to start by looking for the remote." Delivery app Uber Eats, Google Maps, and social media platform X (formerly Twitter) have also experienced unstable operation. Business-oriented services are also affected, with reports from the IT industry stating, "We can't get any work done," and accounts of booking system failures leading to 60-minute delays. Furthermore, educational service "Kodomo Challenge's" Manabi Theater and the network licenses for design software "Maya" are also suspected to be impacted.

In response to this AWS outage, many users are experiencing significant inconvenience. Complaints about work disruptions, such as "This is so sad, will there be massive overtime?", are being heard, along with sarcastic comments like, "Let's build a backup service for AWS outages... on AWS." On the other hand, some users expressed relief, saying, "I'm glad I'm working from home."

While there are reports of some services showing signs of recovery, a complete resolution has yet to be achieved. Users are widely calling for a speedy recovery, asking, "When will the AWS outage be fixed?"
