Equinox Foal 'Midnight Bizou's 2025' Sells for Record-Tying ¥580 Million at 2025 Select Sale

At the 2025 Select Sale, 'Midnight Bizou's 2025', a foal by Equinox who drew the full attention of racehorse fans and industry insiders, was sold for an astounding 580 million yen (excluding tax). This marked the joint third-highest price ever recorded in the history of the Select Sale, and the venue was filled with excitement.

This highly anticipated individual is a thoroughbred with truly 'super pedigree', sired by Equinox, a legendary racehorse of the century who won multiple G1 races both domestically and internationally, and out of Midnight Bizou, who claimed five G1 victories in the US and won the 2020 Saudi Cup. Midnight Bizou herself was acquired by Katsumi Yoshida, president of Northern Farm, for $5.5 million (approximately 740 million yen at the exchange rate at the time) at the 2022 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, and her pedigree background had already hinted at a high transaction price.

Bidding started from a reserve price of 100 million yen, but the price quickly soared, with many buyers raising their hands. Ultimately, 'Nebraska Racing' successfully placed the winning bid. The company is believed to be an affiliate of Round One, a major amusement facility operator.

Regarding the conformation of the purchased foal, comments have been made such as, 'It feels sturdier than expected,' and 'The excellent balance of its parts and its magnificent stance derived from it indeed remind one of its sire,' indicating high expectations for its potential. A total of 24 yearlings from Equinox's first crop were offered, with 'Midnight Bizou's 2025' clearly receiving an exceptionally high evaluation among them.

This high-priced sale was a result of the immense anticipation for Equinox as he embarks on his new journey as a sire, combined with Midnight Bizou's outstanding racing performance and breeding capabilities. The eyes of the entire horse racing world are now fixed on the future success of this super horse.
