FFXIV Announces Major Chocobo Companion Overhaul, Bringing Feathered Buddies to Dungeons in Patch 8.1

At the FFXIV Fan Fest in Berlin, Square Enix announced a major update plan for the 'Buddy Chocobo' companion system in the popular online RPG Final Fantasy XIV, generating widespread excitement across social media.

According to the announcement, a comprehensive revamp of the Buddy Chocobo system is currently in development, targeted for implementation in Patch 8.1 and beyond. The biggest highlight is that chocobos—previously restricted to open-world field combat—will finally be able to join players as full party members in dungeons.

In addition, the companion training and progression system will undergo a complete overhaul. Long-time players will not lose their hard-earned progress, as existing data such as chocobo ranks will be carried over, allowing players to enjoy new progression and adventures alongside their trusted sidekicks.
