Kaito Muramatsu Slams Dramatic Walk-off Home Run to Snap Dragons’ Losing Streak

On April 24, at Vantelin Dome Nagoya, the clash between the Chunichi Dragons and the Tokyo Yakult Swallows ended in dramatic fashion, etching itself into baseball history. Dragons infielder Kaito Muramatsu delivered a clutch, game-winning three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, securing a 6-4 victory. This triumphant win snapped the team's dismal six-game losing streak.

The game was a back-and-forth battle until the very end. With the score tied at 3-3 in the top of the eighth, Yakult’s Domingo Santana blasted a go-ahead solo home run, leaving the Dragons trailing by one as they entered their final turn at bat in the bottom of the ninth. With their backs against the wall, Seiya Hosokawa singled and pinch-hitter Seiji Kawagoe followed with a gritty double, putting runners on second and third with one out.

Muramatsu stepped to the plate in this high-pressure situation. After falling behind in the count, he recalled the advice of batting coordinator Nobuhiko Matsunaka: "Go with a no-step swing." Steeling his resolve, Muramatsu swung through; the ball soared into the right-field stands, completing a miraculous come-from-behind victory. Reflecting on the decisive moment after the game, Muramatsu said, "I just made up my mind, steeled myself, and went with the no-step swing."

This victory marked the Dragons' first comeback win of the season and their first win at their home stadium, Vantelin Dome, since April 2. The stands erupted in joy at the dramatic finish, and Muramatsu was greeted with a celebratory "water shower" from his teammates. Having avoided a seventh consecutive loss, the Dragons hope this win will serve as the signal for a fierce counterattack in the standings.
