Niji Store's New 'GRAY×ACCENT' Series Sparks Excitement, Revives Shipping Fee Concerns
Nijisanji, the popular VTuber group, has announced the launch of a new limited-edition "GRAY×ACCENT" merchandise series on its official online store, "Niji Store," attracting significant attention from fans. However, this launch has also reignited discussions among users regarding shipping fees and delivery, issues that have long been a topic of debate.
The "GRAY×ACCENT" series is set to go on sale starting November 6th (Thursday) at 6:00 PM JST. Six Livers are participating: Wen Akagi, Ibrahim, Rito Usami, Tamako Kirame, Momone Kozue, and Berry Saotome. The lineup features 10 distinct items adorned with visuals of the Livers dressed in stylish gray-toned fashion, including acrylic stands, long-sleeve T-shirts, tote bags, random Cheki-style cards & stickers, hair clips, and bead charms. The announcement also hinted at the implementation of shared outfits, further building anticipation for future developments. Products are scheduled for bulk shipment from mid-November to early December, leading some eager fans to suggest making separate purchases to receive items sooner.
Meanwhile, other popular items, such as Kagami Hayato's 1st album "ULTIMATE CITY" and various birthday merchandise, are steadily reaching users. The album's special benefits, including TCG-style cards and three types of Niji Store-exclusive cards, have been particularly well-received. There have also been movements in sales, such as the replenishment of the temporarily sold-out B-disc version of the album.
However, one aspect of Niji Store that has long divided user opinion is the issue of "shipping fees." While complaints about "high shipping costs" frequently surface, some users hold positive views, stating comments such as "It's commendable that they properly charge for shipping in this day and age," "I think it's about average," or "If it's the same price for Tokyo and Osaka, it's actually rather cheap." Furthermore, specific requests have been made, such as "I wish there were shipping options like Nekoposu that keep costs down for small-lot packages," along with suggestions for improvement like "Please introduce a point system" or "Offer free shipping for purchases over ¥5,000." Dissatisfaction with product specifications, such as "Too many items can't be combined into one shipment" and "It's annoying that even stickers are randomly enclosed," has also been voiced. Additionally, there are calls for the return of cardboard boxes prominently featuring the "Nijisanji" logo, indicating that fans have high expectations for improvements related to delivery.
While the Niji Store is buzzing with the arrival of attractive new products, the diverse opinions from users regarding shipping costs and delivery services are likely to become significant challenges for future service improvements.
The Context
Nijisanji is one of Japan's leading VTuber agencies, managing a large roster of virtual YouTubers (Livers) who perform, stream, and interact with fans online. VTubers are increasingly popular globally, with a dedicated fanbase that often engages by purchasing official merchandise. Online stores like "Niji Store" are crucial platforms for agencies to offer exclusive goods, celebrating their Livers and strengthening fan engagement. However, like many e-commerce platforms, especially those catering to international or geographically dispersed fanbases, managing shipping costs and delivery expectations can be a complex issue. Fans often weigh the desire for unique merchandise against the additional costs and potential inconveniences of shipping, leading to widespread discussion and feedback whenever new products are announced.
