The official character “Omaneko” of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) Omaezaki Sub Base in Shizuoka Prefecture is set to be released as a plastic model kit under the popular “Kemo-Pla” (beast plastic model) series, drawing massive attention online. Fans have reacted with a mix of surprise and delight to the 3D rendition of this unique character who, despite his incredibly cute and feminine appearance, is canonically male.

Omaneko is modeled after cats living around the sub base. Because of his adorable looks, he has been affectionately referred to on social media as “Omaneko-kun” or “Omaneko-chan.” The upcoming model kit features highly detailed parts oozing military style, including camouflage gear and a rifle, while faithfully capturing his distinct character traits.

What has truly excited fans is the meticulous attention to detail in keeping with his official character profile. Social media posts introducing the model often come with the disclaimer “*Omaneko-kun is male,” and fans have praised details like the “excellent reproduction of his chest fur,” appreciating how his androgynous charm has been perfectly captured in the model’s sculpt.
