Umamusume PisuGoru's 'Fake Finale' Sends Fans into a Frenzy on X!

The popular comic series, “Umamusume PisuPisu☆SupiSupi Golshi-chan,” affectionately known as “PisuGoru,” unexpectedly trended on SNS X, causing a temporary uproar among fans. The surge in attention stemmed from a post by the official account stating, “It was a good final chapter,” quickly followed by a flood of users lamenting, “PisuGoru has also ended…”

However, it was soon revealed that the episode, published as “Chapter 71,” was in fact a “provisional final chapter” (最終回(仮)), a so-called “fake finale gag” or a “final chapter practice run.” What particularly surprised, delighted, and ultimately relieved readers was its highly metafictional content. It was strongly inspired by the actual final chapter of “Umamusume Cinderella Gray” (ShinGure), another “Umamusume” title serialized in a different publication. Readers responded with a mix of astonishment, laughter, and relief.

Users commented, “PisuGoru never deviates, milking everything out of ShinGure’s finale right to the end!” and “The Evangelion final chapter parody was also hilarious,” praising the comic’s clever and humorous incorporation of other works’ endings. Remarks also pointed out the parody transcending publisher boundaries, noting, “PisuGoru is Shogakukan, but ShinGure is Shueisha...” Hitomi Ueda, the voice actress for Gold Ship in Umamusume, also reacted to the buzz, offering words of appreciation: “Well done...!!”

While many fans exclaimed, “I really thought it was the actual final chapter! lol,” they also expressed excitement for the series’ continuation and future developments, with comments like, “It was amazing,” and “We’re looking forward to more fun comics next year.” This incident reaffirmed that PisuGoru’s greatest charm lies in its Gold Ship-esque free-spirited and unpredictable developments.

The context

“Umamusume Pretty Derby” is a popular Japanese multimedia franchise featuring anthropomorphized racehorses, known as “horse girls,” who train to become idols and compete in races. Gold Ship (often called Golshi) is one of the most popular characters, renowned for her eccentric, mischievous, and highly unpredictable personality, mirroring her real-life racehorse counterpart’s legendary antics.

“Umamusume PisuPisu☆SupiSupi Golshi-chan,” or “PisuGoru,” is a spin-off gag manga focusing on Gold Ship’s comedic adventures, known for its self-aware humor and metafiction—where the story comments on its own nature. “Umamusume Cinderella Gray” (ShinGure) is another highly popular manga within the same franchise but serialized by a different publisher (Shueisha, as opposed to Shogakukan for PisuGoru). ShinGure is a more serious drama centered around the horse girl Oguri Cap, and its actual conclusion was a significant event for fans. The “fake finale” of PisuGoru cleverly parodied ShinGure’s ending, a remarkable feat given the traditional rivalry between major Japanese publishers.
