Gakuen Idolmaster Sparks Buzz with 'Special Training 7' Expansion, But Material Shortages Leave Producers Worried

An upcoming update for the popular mobile game Gakuen Idolmaster (affectionately known as Gakumasu in Japan) has set social media abuzz. The development team has announced plans to expand the availability of "Special Training 7" (Tokkun 7), a key character-progression milestone, to more idols in the game.

The announcement has been met with a wave of excitement, particularly because the expansion will cover not only the initial launch characters but also past season-limited gacha characters. Players are thrilled to see older limited-edition cards get a much-needed boost, specifically pointing to characters like Sumika and Rinami from the "Semi-Blue" series and Kotone from the "Kamurigiku" (Crown Chrysanthemum) event. However, the excitement is tempered by a looming headache for "Producers" (the player's role in the game): a severe shortage of essential upgrade materials. Upgrading an idol to Special Training 7 requires a massive amount of rare resources, specifically "Master Notes" and "Hatsuboshi Trophies."

"Even if Special Training 7 is released, I don't have the materials to actually do it," "The trophy supply is way too low," and "Please increase the distribution rate!" are common refrains online.
