XG Producer SIMON and Avex Employees Arrested in Major Drug Scandal

SIMON (real name: Junho Sakai), the producer of the popular seven-member girl group XG, was arrested in the early hours of the 23rd by the Metropolitan Police Department on suspicion of involvement in illegal drugs. His age was not disclosed. A total of four individuals, including SIMON, were arrested. It has also been revealed that three of those arrested are employees of Avex, XG's managing agency.

The charges relate to violations of the Narcotics Control Law (possession of cocaine and dried cannabis). According to police, on the evening of the 22nd, investigators conducted a search at a hotel in Aichi Prefecture, where they seized four bags of cocaine and one bag of dried cannabis. Reports indicate that SIMON had participated in XG's live tour in Nagoya just the day before his arrest.

After 8:00 AM on the 23rd, SIMON was escorted by Metropolitan Police Department investigators and transferred from Nagoya City, where he was taken into custody, to Tokyo Station. This dramatic arrest has sent shockwaves throughout the entire music industry, causing particular concern among XG's members and fans.

SIMON, who has a Korean father and a Japanese mother, was born in Seattle, USA, and raised in South Korea. His arrest is expected to significantly impact XG's future activities and the entertainment industry's stance on drug-related issues.

The involvement of Avex employees in the arrests has prompted some to highlight the 'dark side' of the industry. Attention is now focused on uncovering the full truth behind this incident and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.

The context

XG is a globally recognized seven-member Japanese girl group known for their distinctive hip-hop and R&B sound. They debuted in 2022 under XGALX, a subsidiary of the major Japanese entertainment conglomerate Avex. SIMON, as their executive producer, plays a crucial role in shaping their music, image, and overall direction, making his arrest particularly impactful on the group's operations and public perception.

Avex is one of Japan's largest and most influential entertainment companies, involved in music production, artist management, live events, and more. The revelation that three of their employees were also arrested alongside SIMON on drug charges is a significant blow to the company's reputation and highlights potential deeper issues within the industry.

Japan has extremely strict drug laws, with severe penalties for possession, use, and trafficking. Such high-profile arrests in the entertainment industry are rare and typically lead to widespread public condemnation and serious professional repercussions for those involved, as well as for the groups and companies associated with them.
