Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Debuts First Musical: 'STARLIGHT HIGH SCHOOL!' Sparks Fan Frenzy
The first-ever musical event for "The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls," titled "CINDERELLA GIRLS MUSICAL STARLIGHT HIGH SCHOOL!" (affectionately known as "Deremyu"), has been announced, sparking a wave of enthusiastic reactions from Producers (fans) across social media. This monumental event is part of a series of special projects celebrating The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls' entry into its 15th-anniversary year.
This event will take the form of a "2.5D stage musical," featuring idols performing, with multiple shows scheduled. The first installment, "STARLIGHT HIGH SCHOOL!," will be held on May 9th (Saturday) and 10th (Sunday) in Matsudo, with additional performances confirmed for July 4th (Saturday) and 5th (Sunday) in Osaka. Furthermore, a second installment has been hinted at, and the cast for the first round has been announced, featuring popular idols such as Risa Matoba, Hina Araki (voiced by Rui Tanabe), Chizuru Matsuo, Kozue, Chiaki Kurokawa, and Haruna Kamijo, fueling ever-growing fan anticipation. It has also been revealed that Miyu Negishi will participate as an ensemble member in the May performances.
Immediately following the announcement, "Deremyu" trended on X (formerly Twitter), with numerous Producers expressing their fervent desire to attend, using phrases like "I must go," "I want to go," and "I wanna goooo!" Securing tickets is expected to be challenging, with comments such as "I don't feel like I'll get tickets" and "Please let me win!" already indicating a fierce scramble. Some Producers are even making advance hotel reservations in hopes of winning the ticket lottery. S-seats are designated as the front 14 rows, promising an immersive viewing experience.
Anticipation is also building for official merchandise, including newly drawn character illustrations, pamphlets, color-changing penlights, student IDs, and Fata Morgana goods. The newly illustrated "Nono under the desk" character in particular has drawn cries of "Too cute!" and "I'm crying tears of joy!", indicating significant attention on merchandise sales.
The Cinderella Girls 15th-anniversary year is packed not only with "Deremyu" but also major events like an XR live concert in August and a 15th-anniversary commemorative live concert in November. Despite their busy schedules, Producers are buzzing with excitement for this new challenge in the form of a musical event.
The context
"The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls" is a popular Japanese multimedia franchise by Bandai Namco Entertainment, primarily centered around a mobile game, anime series, and music. It features a large cast of aspiring female idols, with fans (known as "Producers") managing their careers. A "2.5D stage musical" is a theatrical performance where actors portray characters from 2D media like anime, manga, or video games, bringing them to life on a 3D stage. This unique format blurs the lines between animation and live action, offering fans an immersive experience. Matsudo and Osaka are major cities in Japan, serving as common venues for such events. Penlights are light sticks often used by fans at idol concerts to show support.
